Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan

Writer. VoiceOver Talent. Artist
I am a California-based non-profit development consultant, professional voice talent, poet, translator, children's author, and occasional model. My voice has been used in documentaries, educational and artistic initiatives, and audio books, and my writing has appeared in Indian and American publications including The Hindu, India Currents, and Skipping Stones. My published books include A Pie Surprise (Mango Books), Native American Folktales (Mango), and The Autobiography of a Tree (translation from Hindi, Mango). I have also published a poetry collection (Around the World you Wander, Solstice) and had poetry included in the anthology Read Aloud Stories (Tulika Books). My work has been showcased at book fairs and is part of various Indian school curricula.

My Philosophy

I have been a "story teller" and communicator all my life. As a non-profit grant writer working for individuals with disabilities for almost two decades, I used the "power" of words and the stories of people to draw funders to programs that they wished to support. And, as I said on KQED’s Perspective, I’ve loved the sound of words ever since I was a little girl and thus had a long engagement with radio, theater, and even TV in India. It was perhaps this love of words that brought me to the U.S. as a student of Literature, and it is the same affection for words that inspired me to teach elocution to my children and to coach them for speech competitions.

More recently, I have employed the sound of words as a professional voice talent for documentaries and audio books. I also play with rhyme and sound in the children’s poems that I craft. I use the strokes of a palette knife and the vibrant colours of oil pigments to paint images that tell and show. Thus my story is a story of conversation, and I’d like to believe that I have used my skills, passion, commitment, and creativity to affect people, express ideas, and make connections. This website is an introduction to me and my current projects, and I hope that you will find these pages engaging.
